With this new variant, the Vios model line-up will still consist of a total of four variants - Vios TRD Sportivo, Vios 1.5G, Vios 1.5E, and Vios 1.5J. This is to give customers a wide range of choices basd on their requirements, with the new Vios TRD Sportivo to cater for those who want and exciting small sedan that is fun to drive on a daily basis.

With the Vios TRD, we are sure the Vios will continue its growth momentum."

With the introduction of the Toyota Vios TRD Sportivo package, the current Vios 1.5S variant will be discontinued.

However, other existing variants namely 1.5G, 1.5E and 1.5J are still available.

Variable Valve Timing with Intelligence

VVT-i is based on the principle of maximising performance by matching the timing of the engine's air intake and exhaust to your driving situation - idling, acceleration, passing and cruising.

The on-board 32-bit microcomputer on the VVT-i engine continuously monitors the RPM reading, throttle opening and other factors to optimise air intake and exhaust. It makes the necessary adjustments every 1/1000th of a second.

For instance, to give you a performance boost during full acceleration, the computer turns the air-con system off for the few seconds when you need the extra power. Once you have returned to stable speed, it turns the air-con system on again. This can all happen so fast, so efficiently - you will not feel any change in comfort.

The three main advantages of driving with a VVT-i engine are:

More Power

By optimising valve timing, the engine delivers powerful torque at low to medium engine RPMs. This continuous optimisation provides smooth acceleration every time.

Better Fuel Efficiency

The VVT-i engine uses fuel more effectively and keeps wastage to a minimum.

Cleaner Exhaust

With more efficient combustion that lowers exhaust emissions, the Toyota vehicle is more environmentally friendly while improving engine performance.

The engine manifold intake and exhaust have been reversed in the VVT-i engine. The intake is in the front and the output is in the rear of the engine. This improves efficiency, reduces intake noise, and shortens the distance to the catalytic converter.

Recently Toyota Malaysia announce for the latest grade for their Toyota Vios that is Vios J Grade. It is more affordable and quite a good offer for Malaysian.

Specifications are lower than the current Vios in E, G and S grades but the vios J still gets the fuel efficient 1.5-litre VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) engine, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution and brake assist.

The second generation Toyota Vios Malaysia is currently available in three grades: two grades initially available on the previous Malaysian Vios (E and G), and a new grade (S). Now the latest grade is the Toyota Vios J.

What is the different between Vios E, G, S and Vios J?

The E grade is the entry-level model, branded as a cost-effective version of the Toyota Vios, and is the cheapest and most stripped-down Toyota Vios among the three (E,G,S) grades, priced at around an estimated RM 78,900. The car includes several cut-backs compared to the G and S grades, including:

- Rear drum brakes instead of an all-disc set-up for the G and E grades.
- 14-inch alloy rims as oppose to 15 for the G and S.
- driver’s side only airbag as opposed to dual-front airbags for the G and S.
- driver’s side only pretensioned, forced limited seatbelts as opposed such seatbelts on all occupants’ sides for the G and S.
- a single-DIN CD receiver and four-speaker system, instead of steering mounted audio controls and six-speaker, dashboard integrated CD receiver with MP3 and WMA-playback capability for the G and S.

The G grade is considered to be a mid-priced model between the E and S grades, retailing at an estimated RM 85,300.

The new Toyota Vios line saw the inclusion of a new S grade Vios. The S grade includes cosmetic enhancements rather than a performance-based ones, sporting a set of “aero parts”, a minor body kit encompassing a front bumper spoiler, side skirts and a bootlid spoiler.

The Toyota Vios S variant is estimated to be the most expensive Vios among the three, at around RM 88,600. The interior of the Toyota Vios S grade receives a dark grey/black trim treatment, and includes an “Optitron” meter with a multi-information display, as opposed to the E and G grades’ conventional backlit display.

Recently, Toyota Malaysia added a fourth grade for the Toyota Vios called the Vios J grade, which is the cheapest and most bare bone grade of the Toyota Vios in Malaysia. Unlike the other grades which are only available with an automatic transmission, the Toyota Vios J grade has the option for a manual transmission gear. The manual J grade Vios is priced at just under RM70,000 (RM69,825.00 or RM73,525.00 for manual and automatic respectively). The J grade Vios does not come with any airbags.

All model grades were reported to include ABS, EBD and brake assist, as are passive safety features such as whiplash injury lessening seats, a collapsible steering wheel column and an impact sensing fuel cut-off.

This Toyota Vios J might have a better fuel consumption compare to other grades because of the use of manual gear transmission.
